- All seniors in good standing at the University who will complete their academic requirements by Commencement of their senior year may apply for the position of Young Trustee using the application form provided on this website. The application process also entails writing two essays and securing two letters of recommendation.
- In order to be declared a candidate, a senior must also receive endorsement from 5 percent of the junior and senior classes. To do this, the candidate collects signatures on the petition form provided on this website.
- Seniors who intend to continue their affiliation with The Johns Hopkins University following graduation, as graduate students, employees, etc., are not eligible for nomination. Also ineligible are the two seniors who agree to serve on the Young Trustee Selection Committee.
- The Young Trustee Selection Committee carefully reviews the applications submitted by candidates (including their essays and letters of recommendation), validates candidates’ petitions and academic standing, interviews all candidates, and selects five finalists.
- The five finalists are interviewed by the Board of Trustees’ Trusteeship, Nominations and By-Laws Committee, which then recommends one of the five to the Board for election.

An information meeting for candidates and prospective candidates
will be held for the benefit of all members of the junior
and senior classes. This informal meeting will provide information
about the duties and responsibilities of trusteeship and the
process of applying for the position of Young Trustee. Questions
are encouraged. The meeting will be held in the Hodson Hall
Board Room at 6:30 p.m., and refreshments will be provided.

242, no later than 5:00 p.m.

The Secretary of the Board of Trustees will notify all who
applied for the position of Young Trustee about whether or
not they were selected as a finalist.
Sunday, March 8, 2009
Members of the Board of Trustees Committee on Trusteeship,
Nominations and By-Laws will interview the five finalists
for Young Trustee in Hodson Hall and will select one to nominate
for election to the Board of Trustees.
Monday, March 9, 2009
The Board of Trustees will elect the Young Trustee for the
2009-2013 term.
Friday, March 13, 2009
The name of the new Young Trustee elected by the Board of
Trustees will be publicly announced.
